Qieth Quits

You have probably noticed a lack of posts these last few weeks. There has been several reasons for this, mostly due to the lack of really interesting moonkin changes, but also because I seem to have been suffering a rather bad writing block. This has happened before, so I figured, no biggie.

The other day, however, I started contemplating my relationship to World of Warcraft. Long story short, I decided that I was going to call it quits. I am generally only logging on to raid, and while I really enjoy that, I figured it might be the time to move on after playing the game for over six years.

Seeing as this is a moonkin blog, and that I won’t actually be playing a moonkin anymore, I would be sorely pressed at doing writeups for a class and a game that I no longer play. So as far as that goes, this ends an era in the life of Qieth’s Quips.

As for the moonkin guide, this will obviously not be updated beyond it’s current state, and will – eventually, I guess – be taken down. I’m trying to sort out something with another poster on MMO-Champion to take over the moonkin guide in some form or another, so moonchicks still have a place for a good moonkin resource.

Waaaait, wait, wait, wait, wait, I’m not done!

So what’s going to happen to qieths-quips.com? What am I going to do from here on out? Well, don’t worry, I’ve got some things planned. I wanted to take this time and let you know what’s going to happen around here, so you can decide if you want to abandon me forever, or if you have a reason to ever check back.

This blog is going to magically turn into a sort of gaming/personal blog. For the last ~6 months, I’ve been publishing a lot of videos on Youtube, sometimes several videos each day. I have been doing commentated playthroughs of various games, and this is a project I would like to continue. And while I haven’t completely decided which direction I’ll take the blog, I reckon it will be a mix between talking about games and posting my Lets Play’s, while throwing in a few personal posts from time to time.

You can expect some changes as time goes by, and hopefully you will enjoy the content here and on my Youtube channel. Who knows, you might like it. For good measure, seeing as a lot of things are going to go down on my Youtube channel, it would be prudent to post a link here – go ahead and subscribe: http://www.youtube.com/qieth.

I would like to thank each and all of you for sticking with me during these 18 months. All your comments, feedback and support. It has been really enjoyable to blog for you and talk with you, and part of me will really miss that.

Best regards,
Dan Poulsen

Russian Qieth

Earlier this week, I got a mail from Avl, a moonkin blogger on the Russian WoW fansite noob-club.ru, who asked if I would be willing to do a… short… interview for his Russian community. It seemed like fun, so I obviously jumped right in.

If your Russian is strong, you can read the original article here. What, you can’t read Russian? Well, you could try and see if this Google translate makes it easier for you. It doesn’t, I know, but it lets you somewhat see the comments people are posting.

I’ve gone ahead and posted the original transcript of the interview here. A few bits and pieces was cut out of the article posted on noob-club.ru, but this seemed like the easiest way to do it.

Rebirth ally

The first changes are coming up on the patch 4.1 PTR and in them are a couple of things I’d like to address. First of all, I don’t want you to freak out. I’ll be honest, sometimes I feel like the blogs I do sometimes are merely to do some damage control. You know “The world isn’t going to end” and that sort of thing.

  • Starsurge damage has been reduced by 20%.

Don’t worry, the world ISN’T going to end. I looked up our latest Chimaeron log, and from what I can tell, it sets me back by around 3,3% DPS. That means I would have lost around 675 DPS, which isn’t too bad – I would have been 7th on that fight instead of 6th.

And to be fair, I do think that Starsurge has a little bit too much power. I’m loving the 75k crits, but maybe we could shift a bit of our damage over to starfire and wrath. After all, it will be a long time before the PTR is done, and nothing is set in stone. Even if we do just get a nerf, it’s one that we can live with. Our damage is very good these days, and this won’t really change a thing.

The second important part I wanted to talk about, is the change to Death Knight’s Raise Ally. It will now function like a combat ress. I guess thats pretty fine, because we have had situations where we have only had two druids in the raid, and we haven’t been able to use combat resses up to the 3-per-try limit.

It’s not so much the fact that DK’s are getting a combat ress, but I want to use this news to transition into talking about the whole combat ress cap situation we’re dealing with.

Thinking with Typhoon

For the last couple of weeks, I feel like I have been championing the cause of Gale Winds. You know, the talent that we all hated during Wrath that seemed like a complete waste of points? The talent that we only really took on the fights like Anub’Arak heroic, where AOE mattered?

Lots of things has changed in Cataclysm, most notibly the fact that Hurricane is terrible for both damage and mana at this point in the game, but also the fact that Typhoon is actually a pretty awesome spell now.

But alas, many people seem to look down on Typhoon and on Gale Winds as a talent. I opt to change that!

Stormrider’s Regalia

It sure took me a while, but I finally managed to get my 4-piece tier 11 set bonus. The main reason for this was that I picked up a pair of epic pants in the first week of raiding, and figured I’d just take those last.

Of course, when people actually managed to get the 4-piece bonus, they started doing the math, and as it turns out, it’s really rather badass. But, I figured I might as well continue my epic-upgrading, and I have now finally managed to get my very last item from Valor Points.

Of course, had I actually run the random heroic every day, I would have gotten this a long time ago. Several guildies of mine has been making a killing on selling valor boots, and now that I’m finally finished, maybe I can catch in on some sweet goldmaking. But that is not the topic of this blog post.

Blizzard hates everybody

I want to touch upon a subject that has spiked many debates over the years. You might remember my Blizzard hates druids post nearly a year ago, and this post is much like it.

If you recall, there were too camps to the story back then. The “Blizzard hates druids!” group, or as I like to call them, the self centred ignorants that think everybody are out to get them, and the “Well done, Blizzard!” group – we are often referred to as fanboys.

Now, I don’t want to say “I told you so”, but I did, and as it turns out, we are actually pretty alright today. Our biggest issues in Wrath had been taken care of, and when Cataclysm came out, we were in a really good spot – and we still are.

Hotfix galore

Logging into WoW on wednesday was fun. But it was also quite disturbing. Testing the new changes to moonkins was interesting, but it didn’t take long to realise that a few things were a little bit off.

Starfall was supposively changed so that it doesn’t pull mobs that you’re not in combat with. In reality, if you are not in combat, starfall doesn’t hit anything. If you are in combat, it will still tag any mob in a 40 yard radius. Something went wrong there, I suppose.

But Starfall was also acting very weird in general. On a single target, I could get anywhere between 9 and 16 stars. On two targets, I got up to a total of 29 stars at best. Three targets gave me 40 stars, and everything was just so eratic that it was hard to figure out excactly what was going on. This was obviously a bug, and was hotfixed on thursday. Not a very big suprise.

But now, another hotfix is in the works. I worry about the repercussions of this, and how you guys will react. Let’s keep it short and simple:
