New, new eclipse

I really wanted to join in on the Blizzard developer chat on Twitter. I was waiting up for it to start, only to fall asleep on the couch 30 minutes before it was supposed to start. Waking up 8 hours later, the chat was over and out, but at least I could read the logs. I had a few questions that I wanted answered, so I guess I’ll post them here. Ghostcrawler, could you be a sport and reply when you read this? (well, one can dream, right?)

What I really want to know is:

  • Do we get to keep moonkin form as a permanent shapeshift, or are you planning to empose the same deal on us as with restoration druids?
  • Will we get more choices for customization than what we have in our current talent tree?
  • Will there be more options in the restoration tree, rather than the current 5 points we can put in?
  • Will balance and restoration always be tied to each other, or might we ever see options in the feral tree for our last 10 talent points?
  • What’s the deal with Nature’s Grace?

In any case, Blizzard did answer a lot of questions, but some of them very quite vague. There was no questions about our moonkin form, which means that either nobody was concerned about us maybe losing our forms, or that they didn’t answer because they haven’t decided.

Thoughts on druid changes

It took a good day of waiting since my post yesterday, but the much anticipated druid changes are finally here! But what to make of them?

Surely, these seem like rather interesting and creative changes. We can only muse about how they will play out once Cataclysm goes live, so in the meantime, lets take an in depth look at the changes.

Please refer to my previous post for a list of all changes.

The secrets of DPS

I have been wanting to rub my hind quarters on this subject for quite a while, but at the same time I have been somewhat hesitant about it. It is not because I hold some grand thoughts that I have the holy grail of DPS, or that I want to keep this information – these theories, if you will – away from anyone.

It is more the fact that this is a very wide subject. It is hard to simply jolt down a list of tips and say “Do this, and you will be better”, for it is very difficult to ensure that you have a comprehensive list – and there is always the chance that someone will go “Well duh, we already knew that”.

But I get a chance to talk to a lot of moonkins, and it is my understanding that some of these tips aren’t always universally known by all. Some might do one thing, some might do another. For some it is a very natural thing to do, and others have tips and ideas that I haven’t even thought of. It is my aim with this post to try and come up with a list of those little things that can go a long way in increasing your damage. If it helps you, the reader, then thats wonderful. If you already knew them, then thats wonderful too. Maybe you have a tip of your own to share?

Quick Quip: Speculations

In the past few days, Ghostcrawler has made two comments in Moonkin threads across the official WoW forums.

The first comment was to a suggestion to make Owlkin Frenzy be an on-use ability, such as Beastial Wrath or the like. Ghostcrawler didn’t seem to like that idea, stating that “I also don’t think it’s a great place to buff them for PvE. There are fights without a lot of predictable raid damage, and void zone diving shouldn’t be critical in keeping your dps up.”.

Thats all fine and dandy, Ghostcrawler. I understand if you don’t want to give us a burst ability, or if it’s too big a change to make at this point in the expansion. It would be rather easy to balance though, and would give us that little edge.

The second comment was aimed at a suggestion about changing Glyph of Wrath into something that increased its cast time by 0,5 seconds, and its damage by x%, to account for the longer cast time. This is a brilliant idea, because it would give us better scaling with haste, and it would remove a rather useless glyph. Ghostcrawler, however, stated that “I understand the intent and it’s clever in a way, but we would be hesitant to introduce a glyph that would actually be a bad glyph for players who weren’t capable of benefiting from a bunch of haste.”.

This makes no sense to me. We already have Glyph of Healing Touch, which is the excact opposite of what is proposed for Glyph of Wrath and that doesn’t seem to worry the developers. Even if new players did use the “new” Glyph of Wrath, it would probably not be a very big deal for them. Never the less, this is how the developers feel, and I suppose they know what they are doing.

However, the PTR forums are getting clearned up, which usually means that the PTR is coming soon. I find this curious, to say the least, because we usually don’t get many comments in moonkin threads.

This is pure speculation, but maybe – MAYBE – Ghostcrawler is passing on these two ideas, and being so “active” in moonkin threads, because they have something else in store for us?

Interview with Lappé

No doubt many of us are closely following progression in heroic Icecrown Citadel. There are a lot of guilds gunning for the position for the best guild in the world.

Ahead of everybody else is Paragon from Lightnings Blade EU, and I hooked up with their very own moonkin Lappé for a little chat.

Nibelungenlied

Since ICC came out, there has been a buzz around the staff from Lady Deathwhisper: Nibelung. There has been no shortage of posts on MMO-champion, The Moonkin Repository or Elitist Jerks talking about this item, and there is a lot of “what if”‘s and “could it”‘s going around.

A few people wrote me and asked about it, and a couple noted that I had even picked it up myself. I haven’t been overly lucky with getting the Frozen Bonespike to drop yet, and the only viable offhand in ICC hasn’t been released yet. So when I had the chance to snatch up the staff, I decided to give it a whirl.

Moonkin damage… sucks?

A war has been raging on MMO-Champ’s forums lately. An inter-species feud that has no end. A struggle that consumes nearly every thread that pops up. And I’m getting a bit tired of it. It’s the age old turkey discussion known as “We suck, no we don’t, yes we do, no we don’t!” (WSNWDYWDNWD in short).

We are a few people who has been spending the better part of our “We could go hit on girls”-time discussing this subject, and it seems to be growing hotter with every post, and once in a while a new person on the board will stroll in, post something as if we haven’t just been discussing this for eight weeks, and it all starts over again. I myself am beginning to feel a little bit frustrated about all of this whole ordeal, and I aim to put a stop to it.

It seems that, with all the different threads we discuss in, sometimes the arguments previously made gets “forgotten”. The initial argument is then re-posted, regardless of it having been countered already, and the cycle repeats itself. On top of that, if an active participant goes away for a few days, the responses to his post might not be seen by him, and that part of the discussion isn’t continued and both parties believe that they have won the argument. And all of the points made, whether they were forgotten or intentionally ignored, it makes it very difficult – if not completely impossible – to reach a consensus.

So I have decided to make the mother of all arguments, the father of posts, the biggest, meanest blog post to defend my point of view: We’re fine!
