Bloggers generally have a habit of blogging reactively to whatever news comes out. That’s how we roll. After all, the whole point of a blog is to share your views on what’s going on.

But it doesn’t hurt to be a bit forthcoming once in a while, so I thought I’d do a little post on the kind of changes I’d like to see for moonkins. I did do a post like this over a year ago, and if I stretch it a little bit, I can argue that a few of those ideas became a reality.

You already know about my thoughts on Wild Mushroom, and it’s nice to see that some of the suggestions came through. Of course, I have no delusions that my ideas are the pivot point for moonkin changes, but if Ghostcrawler should happen to stop by here while browsing for tips for his moonkin alt, I wouldn’t want him to be disappointed.

Cataclysmic talents

I think the time has come for us to seriously begin considering our future talent specs. I have been hesitant to really do it so far, because I knew that Blizzard couldn’t possibly be done with our talent trees.

A lot of people have cried out that we haven’t quite gotten the same attention as other classes. “Many more classes has gotten a lot more reviews than us”. Well, in my world, a lot of reviews of our talents doesn’t nessecarely mean that the result in the end is any better. If a system is tried and tested, and deemed worthless – as it is with some classes – then it’s just a waste of time. Our talent trees have finally been pimped out, and I’m quite fine with that.

With the latest changes to our talents, I feel that we are much closer to a final version of the new talent trees. Sure, we still need a lot of tweaks, but when they are beginning to simply alter the numbers on the spells, I feel like we are getting progessively faster towards the end result. After all, once we know the concept of the talent trees, the numbers can follow just fine.

Tiny talent trees

The new talent trees are out. Yay. Not much to say about them though, but before I do say anything, there is one single word that I wish to embed in your brain with a hammer:

CHILL!

Already, a lot of angry and confused posts are popping up around the web, from people who think these are the final verions of our talents. It’s not. It’s probably not. Chances are, we are most likely going to see many more changes – maybe. We are still in beta, and there is plenty of time for Blizzard to tweak the trees.

It would appear that my previous assumptions on the talent tree changes were correct. Most, if not all, passive talents have been stripped away, and we will get these as we spec into balance no problem there. No new talents were introduced, although some of the ones we did see was chanegd slightly. Lets take a look at the current status.

Graylo posted on his blog that he had noticed something currious. Apparently, Owlkin Frenzy doesn’t proc from Blood Queen Lana’Thel’s Shroud of Sorrow anymore.

I myself completely missed this in the patch notes, and probably wouldn’t have noticed it myself. I did go back to check our WOL from wednesday, and I only had one proc of Owlkin Frenzy – most likely from a direct bloodbolt or Pact of the Darkfallen.

It’s too bad, because at least that fight had a boost from Owlkin Frenzy, but I am still high from the buff on Starfall.

Also, Ghostcrawler did post something about Eclipse. Nothing he hasn’t said before, of course, but it is nice to have the blue’s reassurance that they are aware of the problems and are working to fix them in the future.

Quick Quip: Speculations

In the past few days, Ghostcrawler has made two comments in Moonkin threads across the official WoW forums.

The first comment was to a suggestion to make Owlkin Frenzy be an on-use ability, such as Beastial Wrath or the like. Ghostcrawler didn’t seem to like that idea, stating that “I also don’t think it’s a great place to buff them for PvE. There are fights without a lot of predictable raid damage, and void zone diving shouldn’t be critical in keeping your dps up.”.

Thats all fine and dandy, Ghostcrawler. I understand if you don’t want to give us a burst ability, or if it’s too big a change to make at this point in the expansion. It would be rather easy to balance though, and would give us that little edge.

The second comment was aimed at a suggestion about changing Glyph of Wrath into something that increased its cast time by 0,5 seconds, and its damage by x%, to account for the longer cast time. This is a brilliant idea, because it would give us better scaling with haste, and it would remove a rather useless glyph. Ghostcrawler, however, stated that “I understand the intent and it’s clever in a way, but we would be hesitant to introduce a glyph that would actually be a bad glyph for players who weren’t capable of benefiting from a bunch of haste.”.

This makes no sense to me. We already have Glyph of Healing Touch, which is the excact opposite of what is proposed for Glyph of Wrath and that doesn’t seem to worry the developers. Even if new players did use the “new” Glyph of Wrath, it would probably not be a very big deal for them. Never the less, this is how the developers feel, and I suppose they know what they are doing.

However, the PTR forums are getting clearned up, which usually means that the PTR is coming soon. I find this curious, to say the least, because we usually don’t get many comments in moonkin threads.

This is pure speculation, but maybe – MAYBE – Ghostcrawler is passing on these two ideas, and being so “active” in moonkin threads, because they have something else in store for us?
