Ruby Sanctum Best In Slot

Patch 3.3.5 and The Ruby Sanctum is just about to hit, and it is probably a good time to take a look at the new items coming, and how they fit into our gear.

Before we do that, I want to try and make an important point. Best in slot lists are very discriminating. What I mean by that is that they asse that you have access to everything, normal and heroic, 10 an 25 man. If you don’t, the value of an item might change due yo caps and whatnot. Also, keep in mind that just because it is a best in slot list, it doesn’t mean that there isn’t alternatives out there. A good example is the Boots of Unnatural Growth. While they have spirit instead of haste, they are nearly as good as the Plague Scientist’s Boots.

An upgrade is an upgrade, so don’t go tunnelvision against these items in particular. If you an upgrade your stats with a nearly-as-good item, you should.

I wanted to make a video compilation of the fights in Icecrown Citadel, with tips and tricks to increase your damage. So I did. I hope you enjoy the video, and that you can take a few tips with you for your next raid. Also, I know my narration is terrible! Click “Read the rest of this entry ยป” to see a written transcript of what I talk about in the video.

3.3 live this week

Just thought i would make a small update, because I know you will be visiting my blog before you go to MMO-champion. According to Boubouille, patch 3.3 will be online this week. Yay!

I don’t know how he got this information, cause it’s not official yet, but I’ll take his word for it. Here is a summary of the changes specific to moonkins:

  • Rebirth: The cooldown on this spell has been lowered from 20 minutes down to 10 minutes. Cannot be used in Arenas.
  • Talents
    • Balance
      • Eclipse: This effect will not activate again within 15 seconds of either type of Eclipse effect firing, in addition to the existing 30-second cooldown for each type of Eclipse.
      • Force of Nature: Health on the treants has been increased.
  • Pets
    • Avoidance (passive): Now reduces the damage your pets take from area-of-effect damage by 90%, but no longer applies to area-of-effect damage caused by other players.
  • Bug fixes
    • Glyph of Hurricane: Now modifies the spell tooltip on Hurricane to indicate the spell also applies a movement slowing effect.
    • Hurricane: When cast from Bear Form, Cat Form, or Dire Bear Form, this spell will now channel properly instead of stopping the channel as soon as the shapeshift is cancelled.

Also. while it is not covered in the official patch notes, tier 8 2-piece set bonus should be nerfed to 7%, while the percentage gained on Eclipse in general is increased by 10%.

Getting a little lovin’

I got a wonderful little suprise when I first logged on to MMO-champion today. A single line, but one that is sure to make a lot of people very happy.

Since tier 8 was nerfed last week, and WiseEclipse was dumbed down to nothing more than a waste of space, the forums have been hot with discussions. All we got was a slight bump to our 4pt10 set, and people haven’t been happy about it. The biggest discussion was the “When you did this to rogues, you buffed their abilities!”, and I have been following that discussion – and the responses Ghostcrawler has made to it – with great intrest. And now, it seems, we have got what we wanted:

Patch 3.3: Eclipse now increases damage done by Wrath by 40% (up from 30%) and the critical chance of Starfire by 40% (up from 30%)

This is a very interesting buff. While it certainly has some positive implications for us, it might still lead us into some problems in Icecrown Citadel.

An interesting day today. I was starting to think the blues had all but forgotten us. Sometimes, however, I wish they had:

Tier 8 nerf

The day has come. Well, it hasn’t actually, but it will. When patch 3.3 hits the servers, tier 8 is finally getting nerfed. It’s not like we didn’t know it was coming. Just a few days ago they nerfed elemental shamans’ tier 9, and we have been struggling with tier 8 for way too long.

The bonus from 2 piece tier 8 is getting nerfed to 7%, less than half of what it usually gave. But it’s not a massive bother. Any moonkins coming after that will be swimming in triumph badges to just get tier nine instead, and the rest of us will move on to tier 10. This makes tier 9 viable as a full set, but unfortunately, it had to happen as a nerf.

Four quickies

I hate to make two blog posts just after the other, fearing that you will ignore the – much bigger – blog post below, but I figured I wanted to share these four bits of random notions:

Ghostcrawler explained how they are going to nerf elemental shamans tier 9 bonuses, because they don’t want people to use older sets because the bonusses are too good. Doesn’t that just strike you as currious, considering that we are still using 2pt8, and probably will until we get four pieces of 264 tier 10?

The mace replacement for Quel’Dalar, the Hammer of Purified Flame has been changed. It now has haste instead of mp5, making it slightly better than the 245 weapons available in Trial of the Crusader, and a very good weapon for new moonkins starting out.

I bite the bullet, troll myself and admit defeat, all within 10 minutes, and my views on Insect Swarm suddenly changes a lot. Previously, I did not deem it worthy to be cast during Lunar Eclipse, but after some amateurish napkin map, I am suddenly a lot warmer on the ability. I am cow enough to admit when I am wrong – as long as I am the one to point it out. Phew, I think I dodged a bullet there.

My gear is shaping up, after I was lucky enough to get the heroic version of Cry of the Val’kyr. I’m down to very few items that I want from TOTC now, other than upgrades from normal to heroic. The last items I have in mind are Lurid Manifistation (either version), aswell as Illumination and Drape of the Sunreavers from 10 man heroic. Ofcourse I want the 272 cloak, but I’m trying to be realistic here.

New information about Icecrown Citadel is out, and I must admit that I am a bit baffled about how they wish to release it, and how they wish to limit some progression fights with tries. I can see the argument from both sides, but on the lore part they explain it as “The Ashen Verdict will have expended their resources for the week and must withdraw”.

Quite frankly, if the Ashen Verdict is having problems continuing the siege on Icecrown Citadel, then maybe they shouldn’t have their forces slaughter each other in Trial of the Crusader. For the past few months, I must have killed over thirty alliance NPCs each week (2x 6 from 10 mans and 2x 10 from 25 mans). Now, unless The Ashen Verdict turns up with a couple of thousand NPCs, I really think they could have benefitted from these 300+ NPCs we have killed, not to mention all the players dissolving in Acidmaws spit. On top of that, it seems strange to stop in the middle of a good siege, just because they have exhausted their resources…
