Gearing up

I get a lot of questions from people asking how to gear up their moonkin. Links to armories, comparasons between this item and that and so on.

Unfortunately, the answer is not always as clear cut as one might think. There is a lot of things to take into consideration, and to perform to our fullest we need to know what to aim for.

Our stat priority has changed a bit over the last few major content patches. It can be difficult to keep yourself up to date, so lets take a good look at our stats, once and for all.

I wanted to make a video compilation of the fights in Icecrown Citadel, with tips and tricks to increase your damage. So I did. I hope you enjoy the video, and that you can take a few tips with you for your next raid. Also, I know my narration is terrible! Click “Read the rest of this entry »” to see a written transcript of what I talk about in the video.

Quick Quip: Languish bug

Gee, I’m sorry for the lack of posts in the past week guys. Lots of stuff to do, not a lot of time to do it in. I have some stuff planned for you guys next week, so you can look forward to that, provided I get around to do it.

For now, I just wanted to drop a line regarding the Languish effect from our 4 piece tier 10. Currently it only does 20% of what it should be doing. In actuality, thats because bosses and dummies resist 80% of the damage. Why? Because Languish is a level 1 spell, and therefore no match for a level 83 boss.

Blues has already commented on this and said: The spell level of Languish (the tier piece proc) is too low, causing an unintended high level of resists. We can hotfix this.

Whether they have done this or not yet, I have no idea. Thankfully, most people won’t have 4pt10 until next week at the earliest, but there are a few people that does have it already. When the majority of people gets it, it should  be well and fixed.

Our current predicament

We have been swimming in new loot for the past month or so, and we are crawling closer and closer to (or further and further away from) our soft crit cap. Up until Icecrown Citadel, I have been working feverishly on keeping my haste near 400, but with just a few upgrades from ICC, it is quite impossible. I am currently less than 1% away from being soft crit capped, and I am almost certain to reach it with the next major upgrade.

But it’s not all bad. I know I have scorned haste quite a lot in the past, but I have had a bit of change of heart after hearing a few arguments and checking through logs. But how do we go about handling haste and crit in ICC?

Please check out the new and improved 3.5 Best In Slot list for Ruby Sanctum!

I have never been a fan of Best-In-Slot lists. People tend to forget that, while a list of items might yield a set of stats that will give you the absolute biggest upgrade, there could still be other setups that aren’t very far behind. People get tunnelvision and start only going for those items. Instead, I look at it like a Better-In-Slot list; Upgrades that you would like to get, which would put you at a comfortable amount of stats.

So, I wanted to try and take a closer look at the upgrades available in ICC, and I’ve created a quick, very noobish spreadsheet with some of the drops. The list is mostly made from items from ICC25 (with only one item from ICC10, Muradin’s Spyglass). This is just a preliminary list, but I suppose ill work on it and tweak it as we go along.

One of the major issues with this list is the topic of caps. From doing this, and the discussion on MMO-Champion that followed, I realised that I am a mere 1,66% crit away from being soft crit capped during luanr eclipse. This is troublesome, because I don’t have the mental capacity to recalculate the value of crit after that.

I did, however, come pretty close to a number that supported that it would still be most valuable to stack crit. The deal is generally, according to what I found, that its worth stacking crit until you can swap to have 712 haste rating and still be soft crit capped. This is not impossible with ICC gear, but I need to do some more research before I can set an actual conclution.

Getting a little lovin’

I got a wonderful little suprise when I first logged on to MMO-champion today. A single line, but one that is sure to make a lot of people very happy.

Since tier 8 was nerfed last week, and WiseEclipse was dumbed down to nothing more than a waste of space, the forums have been hot with discussions. All we got was a slight bump to our 4pt10 set, and people haven’t been happy about it. The biggest discussion was the “When you did this to rogues, you buffed their abilities!”, and I have been following that discussion – and the responses Ghostcrawler has made to it – with great intrest. And now, it seems, we have got what we wanted:

Patch 3.3: Eclipse now increases damage done by Wrath by 40% (up from 30%) and the critical chance of Starfire by 40% (up from 30%)

This is a very interesting buff. While it certainly has some positive implications for us, it might still lead us into some problems in Icecrown Citadel.

An interesting day today. I was starting to think the blues had all but forgotten us. Sometimes, however, I wish they had:

Tier 8 nerf

The day has come. Well, it hasn’t actually, but it will. When patch 3.3 hits the servers, tier 8 is finally getting nerfed. It’s not like we didn’t know it was coming. Just a few days ago they nerfed elemental shamans’ tier 9, and we have been struggling with tier 8 for way too long.

The bonus from 2 piece tier 8 is getting nerfed to 7%, less than half of what it usually gave. But it’s not a massive bother. Any moonkins coming after that will be swimming in triumph badges to just get tier nine instead, and the rest of us will move on to tier 10. This makes tier 9 viable as a full set, but unfortunately, it had to happen as a nerf.
